A Port Moody man is facing several charges relating to a string of break-ins in the Glenayre and College Park neighbourhoods dating back to January.

According to PoMo Police, a woman called the cops on the afternoon of March 23 after she spotted a man peering into windows and trying to open the door of her house in the 900-block of Glenayre Drive. Officers found a man matching the description and a search revealed he had break-and-enter instruments.

He was arrested and charged with possession of break-in instruments, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, and residential break and enter. Investigators also linked the suspect to a break-in in the 1100-block of Glenayre Drive about 20 minutes before officers had arrived; he was later released after a bail hearing with various conditions.

But on the afternoon of March 27, officers reported observing the suspect break into a home in the 200-block of Angela Drive. He was arrested while leaving the home with stolen property allegedly in his possession.

Investigators used forensic identification and other techniques to link the suspect to four additional break-ins and two attempted break-ins, all in Glenayre and College Park.

Matthew Wang, 27, faces criminal charges, including six counts of residential break and enter, two counts of attempted break and enter, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of break-in instruments.

He was released on April 4 under court-imposed conditions.
