Port Moody plans for overpass esthetics

As work progresses on the Moody Street overpass the city of Port Moody is firming up plans for the landscaping and public art that will adorn the finished project.

Work began in in September on the project to perform a seismic upgrade on the overpass as well as widen the bridge sidewalk and reconstruct the pathway approach from Murray Street on the north embankment.

Council got an update on the project Tuesday night and directed staff to continue with the development of a landscape plan for the site as well as to refer plans for public art that will be incorporated in the structure to the arts and culture committee.

"Primarily the concern is they don't want the landscaping to hinder the public art," said Mayor Mike Clay.

Staff will report back to council in January 2014 when work on the overpass is expected to be completed.
