A Port Moody man is facing charges after police arrested him allegedly fleeing the scene of a break and enter on Texada Street on Monday afternoon.

Matthew James Wang, 27, is charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments and breach of recognizance.

Investigators responded to a break-in in progress and believe the suspect ransacked part of the house and attempted to flee when officers surrounded the area.

He allegedly scaled a fence and got into a neighbouring yard, with the foot pursuit eventually coming to an end a short distance from the crime scene.

"When the complainant noticed someone was trying to break into the house, he called 911 immediately and provided us with the suspect's description and location," said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung. "The information allowed our dispatcher and officers to coordinate a timely response and have the suspect in custody."

Wang was expected to appear in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Oct. 31.
