Port Moody residents feeling the urge to get outside for a workout in the sunshine can now access the city’s sports fields again.
But they’ll have to stay apart, and organized sports or large gatherings are still prohibited because of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
“Access to the outdoors is absolutely essential, especially during extended periods of staying indoors,” Mayor Rob Vagramov said in a press release, adding activities on the fields can include “walking, running, frisbee and chilling.”
The limited reopening includes all sports fields owned by the city as well as those jointly owned with School District 43. The grass baseball field at North Shore community park, at 1300 David Ave., remains closed for turf maintenance.
Port Moody’s outdoor sports fields have been closed since March 22 to discourage the gathering of large groups playing sports and defying physical distancing recommendations to prevent transmission of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, along with skate and bike parks, as well as the city’s public washroom facilities, remain closed.
