Powerful windstorm shuts power to thousands

That might be the case if you live in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra where hundreds of customers are currently without power.

A powerful rain and windstorm lashed the south coast last night.

School District 43 is also reporting that Irvine elementary school in Port Coquitlam is closed this morning due to a power outage. On its website, the district says BC Hydro is expecting power to be back on by noon and until then parents are asked to keep their children at home.

The school district will notify parents once power is restored.

As of 9 a.m., today Wednesday, BC Hydro was reporting 140 outages on its website that affecting more than 35,000 customers in the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast.
