A Port Coquitlam man Mounties describe as a prolific offender who was out of jail for less than a month is back before the courts.
Christopher Fogale was released from custody on July 9 after serving time for a theft conviction he received in May. He is facing three new criminal charges, including theft, possession of stolen property and trespass at night.
Cpl. Jamie Chung credited Coquitlam RCMP's crime analysts for gathering enough evidence to lay the new charges.
"When we noticed a recent increase in theft from vehicles, we suspected Christopher Fogale was likely to be the culprit," Chung said. "By having our crime analysts working together with [the prolific target team], we knew were to find Mr. Fogale."
The 32-year-old was arrested near Westwood Street and Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam on Aug. 6.
Fogale was not the only prolific offender to be charged by the Coquitlam RCMP this week.
Investigators also apprehended Mohammed Ansari, a 33-year-old Coquitlam man, after a brief foot pursuit near Lincoln Avenue and Pinetree Way on July 30. Police received a report that a man had been seen breaking into a vehicle in the area.
Ansari is facing a charge of mischief, theft and breach of recognizance and is expected to appear in court this week.
"With both prolific offenders in jail, theft from vehicles will probably go down," Chung said. "However, everyone should still do their part to reduce crime by not leaving valuables in their vehicles and by securing their windows and doors."
