A woman has been arrested after a protest at the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam today,Thursday.
At least a dozen Coquitlam RCMP officers were on the scene for several hours this morning after protesters made their way to a second floor boardroom where an Imperial Metals' meeting was being held.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said the protestors hurled insults at those assembled.
"It was an aggressive protest, it was beyond getting excited," said Cpl. McLaughlin, who was on the scene for about three hours.
A 32-year-old Port Coquitlam woman was arrested after she blocked a doorway and was taken to hospital in an ambulance after she said she was injured, McLaughlin said.
A Coquitlam RCMP officer who was also kicked in the face during the altercation was also hurt, he said, but appeared to be fine.
Up to 40 protesters turned up at the Coquitlam hotel to raise concerns about the company involved in the Mount Polley mine disaster.
McLaughlin said people have a right to peaceful protest but "in a busy hotel, we can't allow people to be interfered with."
Charges have not been formally laid but an investigation of mischief and resisting arrest is underway, McLaughlin said, adding that the protest ended peacefully.
