Red tape cuts for movie theatres

Cuts to red tape will help movie theatres operators after the B.C. government moved to update the Motion Picture Act.

Cuts to red tape will help movie theatres operators after the B.C. government moved to update the Motion Picture Act.

Changes include the introduction of a single license for all movies screened, regardless of classification, alignment of obscenity and child pornography provisions with the Criminal Code of Canada, and new definitions and terms to modernize language dealing with film distribution.

New penalties and sanctions will be introduced so non-compliance cases don't have to end up in court.

This is the first time significant changes have been made to the act since 1986.
