Time's running out to potentially save money on Lucky's collar bling for 202.

Tuesday's (Feb. 1) deadline is approaching for owners in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody to buy or renew their dog licence as the previous expired on Dec. 31.

City officials are encouraging residents with dogs to consider submitting a renewal in the next couple of days.

In Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, all dogs six months and older are required to licensed as per each community's respective bylaw enforcement.

Four months is the youngest age a pooch must be tagged in Port Moody.

Here are the costs of a dog licence in the Tri-Cities' major municipalities:

COQUITLAM

  • Spayed or neutered dogs
    • $28 = Before Feb. 1
    • $45 = After Feb. 1
  • Unspayed and unneutered dogs
    • $57 = Before Feb. 1
    • $74 = After Feb. 1

A certificate of proof is required to qualify for the discount.

"A dog licence is a valuable tool to help protect your pet by providing an easy-to-identify dog tag and registration with the Coquitlam Animal Shelter," explains Aaron Hilgerdenaar, city manager of bylaw enforcement and animal services.

"If your dog gets out or is lost, the fastest way to be reunited with your family is to make sure it is validly licensed and wearing a licence tag on its collar."

For more information, you can visit the dogs page on the City of Coquitlam's website.

PORT COQUITLAM

  • Spayed or neutered dogs
    • $32 = Before Feb. 1
    • $47 = After Feb. 1
  • Unspayed and unneutered dogs

    • $95 = After Feb. 1

The city also requires a certificate of proof to receive the discount.

Port Coquitlam licences are free for seeing eye or hearing assistance dogs (proof is also required), and for new residents trading a valid licence from another jursidiction.

You can visit the dog licensing page of the City of Port Coquitlam's website for more information.

PORT MOODY
