The after-grad committee at Port Coquitlam’s Riverside secondary won’t have to pay to rent Hyde Creek recreation centre for its spring celebration.

But it will have to shell out for any extra city staffing costs to host its event.

Yesterday (Tuesday), committee of council waived the $577 rental fee for the high school to use the Laurier Avenue facility on May 30 and 31, 2020.

The committee’s bill to use the leisure pool and to employ lifeguards is estimated at $537 for four hours; the committee would also be required to pay for any clean-up and property damage, according to a city staff report.

It’s the 23rd year Riverside has been given use of the rec complex for free for its after-grad event.

PoCo's chief administration officer, Kristen Dixon, said council can consider amending the city’s fees and charges bylaw next year to allow after-grad committees to apply for a three-year term to waive the charges, rather than having to do so annually.
