A man in his 20s was arrested in Port Moody on Feb. 2, 2022, after he allegedly threatened another driver with what turned out to be a replica handgun.

A road rage suspect is facing "various" offences after allegedly threatening another driver with what looked like a handgun.

An investigation continues as Port Moody police (PMPD) have a man in his 20s in custody after finding what turned out to be a replica firearm at the scene.

While it ultimately was a fake, spokesperson Const. Sam Zacharias says local police will respond to any case as if it's a legitimate weapon.

"Replica firearms are typically indistinguishable from real firearms," he explained in a release today (Feb. 3).

"Our frontline officers will always treat reports involving firearms as real until determined otherwise."

Before noon on Wednesday (Feb. 2), PMPD were called to a road rage incident in the 900-block of Clarke Road — just north of the Burquitlam neighbourhood — where a man allegedly threatened another commuter with an apparent handgun.

Officers tracked the suspect to a busy shopping plaza in Moody Centre, along with an associated black BMW SUV.

The man was arrested without incident and Criminal Code offences are being considered.

PMPD is now turning to the public for its help with the investigation in the form of dashcam footage or witness statements.

Anyone with more information is encouraged to call Port Moody police at 604-461-3456.
