Coquitlam Coun. Selina Robinson will seek an unpaid leave of absence from her council work while she runs for the New Democratic Party in Coquitlam-Maillardville in the upcoming provincial election.
Robinson, who is a clinical counsellor and operates a home-based business, said she has also put her practice on hold for the duration of the campaign.
"Once the writ is dropped I want to put all my efforts into the campaign," she said in an email to reporters on Monday. "Since I was nominated, I've put my private practice on hold so I can fulfill my duties as a city councillor and do the door-knocking I want to do as a provincial candidate. But I know the four weeks of the campaign will be very busy and I want to be able to devote all my energy to the campaign."
Last week, Coquitlam Coun. Linda Reimer, who is running for the BC Liberals in Port Moody-Coquitlam, was granted approval from council to take an unpaid leave during her campaign. Both councillors will begin their leaves when the writ is dropped on April 16.
The provincial election is scheduled for May 14.
