Rogers Communications has withdrawn an application to build a cell tower in Port Coquitlam's Greenmount Park, a controversial proposal that drew criticism from many residents in the area.

Earlier this month 22 people spoke out against the tower at a city public input session, saying the structure would ruin the view and jeopardize the health and safety of nearby residents.

Had the facility been approved by the city it would have been located 120 meters from nearby Coquitlam River elementary and the project was opposed by School District 43.
