School District 43 is putting off for a week its budget discussion after new information came in this week on provincial operating grants.
The board of education was prepared to discuss how to deal with a projected $3.3 million deficit for next year, but now expects to get more funding because of strike savings, the doubling of a Learning Improvement Fund, and new grant allocations because of higher than expected enrollment and holdback grants.
"These are not small change," said secretary treasurer Rick Humphreys.
Board chair Melissa Hyndes said the current preliminary budget, which was to have been discussed Tuesday, should be discarded.
However, the board did approve the expenditure of nearly $4 million in maintenance spending on roofing, lighting, painting and other upgrades.
