School District 43 may be getting closer to cracking down on vandalism to schools after three youths suspected of graffiti damage were arrested.
School Superintendent Tom Grant reported Tuesday that the district has been cooperating with the RCMP on an investigation to put a stop to graffiti that has plagued Tri-City schools for months.
"Our operations division is working closely with RCMP in supplying pictures and reports of tagged schools," Grant told the board of education Tuesday.
As a result, three youths believed to be responsible for the graffiti in the photos were charged or have charges pending for break and enter, mischief and theft.
Grant said the youths may be made to pay for the damage, he said, which which costs money because school district crews have to paint over the tags.
The superintendent noted that eliminating graffiti is important because when "we have a welcoming environment (school) is just a better place to be."
