School District 43 trustees say asking teens about their physical and emotional health may be a "sensitive" topic but they're willing to consider permitting the McCreary Centre Society to survey students if they can see the questions and talk to representatives in advance.

"I don't want to say yes without knowing what it is," said Anmore and Belcarra Trustee Holly Butterfield.

Every five years, the society surveys a random selection of students in Grades 7 to 12 with questions that cover topics of sports and leisure activities, school and work, weight and body image, family connectedness, as well as sexual behaviour, and drug, alcohol and tobacco use.

Coquitlam Trustee Diane Sowden pointed out the information gathered is important for determining what youth services communities will need.

The next survey is slated for 2013.
