A second man has been charged in relation to a traffic accident that killed two children and a woman on Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam last April.

Hamed Darbarpar, a 20-year-old Port Coquitlam man, has been charged with one count of driving without due care and attention by the BC Prosecution Service after a review of police files.

He’s the second person to be charged; last week Adam Goulding of Surrey was charged with driving without due care and attention.

Neither Darbarpar nor Goulding have been arrested. Both will appear in court at a later date via summons, according to the Coquitlam RCMP.

“They’ve reviewed the evidence since the first charge came down and decided a second a charge was appropriate,” Cpl. Mike McLaughlin told the Tri-City News.

At the time of the accident, a crowdfunding page had been set up for the families of two of the deceased: nine-year-old Ella Reese Hernandez and her three-year-old cousin, Tyler Mollie Wong Hernandez; it raised more than $78,000.

The charge can incur a minimum fine at the scene $368 with a maximum of six months in jail and/or $2,000 fine through the courts.
