An emergency food drive to fill holiday hampers for struggling families is drawing cash and food donations.
Share Family and Community Services is at the Safeway at Sunwood Plaza today (Thursday) collecting donations for its Christmas hamper distribution.
Spokesperson Katherine Lawrence said people are dropping off cash and food and by 10 a.m. today over 1,000 pounds of food had been collected.
The food drive continues until 7 p.m. today.
The need is great because on Wednesday, the first 900 holiday hampers went out to registered food bank users, leaving the shelves bare for the second distribution, set for next Wednesday.
