The Coquitlam Sharks are using the Eagle Ridge and Spani outdoor pools this month for swim meets, meaning they'll be closed to the public on certain days and times.

The Coquitlam Sharks Aquatic Club is set to host several events before the end of the month.

This means the city will be closing a pair of outdoor pools and cancelling public drop-in swimming for the next two weeks.

The Sharks in the Park swim meet is scheduled for this weekend — Aug. 21 and 22 — at Spani Pool from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Meanwhile, the Sharks' artistic squad will be hosting a meet themselves from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eagle Ridge pool on Saturday (Aug. 21).

Residents wishing to get in a few weekend strokes before the summer is over can do so at either City Centre Aquatic Complex or the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex, which also include whirlpools, dry sauna and steam rooms.

At each facility, community recreation manager Vinh Truong says pre-registration is no longer required, but capacity limits are still in place and the public is encouraged to call ahead to check wait times.

For more information, you can visit the swimming page of the city of Coquitlam's website.

The outdoor pool closures are as follows:

SPANI POOL

  • Aug. 21 = All day
  • Aug. 22 = All day

EAGLE RIDGE POOL

  • Aug. 21 = 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Aug. 31 = 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
