Sinkhole repaired, no concerns about public safety - Ministry of Transportation

A small sinkhole that developed in the asphalt on Cecil Drive in Port Moody has been repaired says the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

A small sinkhole that developed in the asphalt on Cecil Drive in Port Moody has been repaired says the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The depression occurred above the area where the Evergreen Line tunnel boring machine was located awaiting routine maintenance. When crews were preparing the tunnel boring chamber for inspection some ground material fell through, creating a two by three metre sinkhole in the asphalt.

"The hole occurred within a secure fenced work area and the public was safe. The hole was immediately filled last night and the contractor will continue to monitor the area," the ministry reports.

However, one lane on Cecile Drive will remain closed with only lane single alternating traffic for 24 hours a day until the work site is dismantled.
