Students at Leigh elementary students were evacuated Wednesday morning after a small electrical fire broke out in the school's boiler room.

Coquitlam Fire and Rescue chief Tony Delmonico said crews were on scene shortly after 9 a.m. and were quickly able to extinguish the flames. Nobody was injured in the incident and he expected students would be back in class within the hour.

"At this point we don't know what happened," he said. "It doesn't sound very serious."

While Delmonico could not say what exactly caused the fire, he said it was likely related to the school's electrical system.

School District 43 spokesperson Cheryl Quinton said students will return to the school once the smoke has cleared, probably after recess. "They're just supervising them outside."

She said the problem originated with the electrical panel in the school's boiler room.
