Photo captures the seriousness of last Sunday's pedestrian accident at Kyle Street and St. Johns. In fact there were two pedestrian accidents that day on St. Johns.

Two pedestrian accidents on the same day and the same street in Port Moody, has police warning drivers and pedestrians to take extra care.

Witnesses are also being asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department if they saw the accidents that took place on St Johns Street on Sunday, Dec. 16.

The first instance occurred at approximately 9 a.m., when a vehicle turning right onto St. Johns Street from Moray Street struck a pedestrian crossing the street. The pedestrian sustained a minor scrape to her right knee and went to hospital as a precaution.

In the second incident, which took place at approximately 2 p.m., a vehicle was making a left turn from Kyle Street onto St. Johns Street, when the driver struck a female pedestrian who had been crossing the street. A second pedestrian narrowly avoided being struck by the vehicle.

The female who was hit was transported to hospital with minor injuries to her left side and is expected to make a fully recovery.

Drivers from both collisions remained on scene and cooperated with police investigations and speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.

β€œThe Port Moody Police would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers and pedestrians to remain alert to their surroundings while driving or when crossing streets. Drivers are reminded to keep their focus on the road and be ready to yield to pedestrians, particularly at intersections,” stated Sgt. Travis Carroll in a press release.

Pedestrians are also reminded that they are difficult to see in poor weather or dark locations. Making eye contact with the driver and wearing reflective clothing are recommended.

Witnesses to either accident are asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department at 604-461-3456 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (www.solvecrime.ca).
