One man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed Saturday afternoon in downtown Port Coquitlam.
The incident occurred at Shaughnessy Street and McAllister Avenue and Mounties were able to apprehend the suspect, who they said is well known to police, a short distance away.
“We made an arrest and there are no other suspects,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “We don’t think there is a great risk to the public.”
The suspect is still in custody and the victim is co-operating with police. She is expected to recover.
McLaughlin added that investigators were still trying to determine the motive for the attack and whether the suspect knew the victim.
“We still need to drill down on it,” he said. “It is still early in the investigation.”
