səmiq̓wəʔelə/Riverview Lands in Coquitlam has a world-class arborteum.

Take a guided tour around the century-old grounds of səmiq̓wəʔelə/Riverview Lands in Coquitlam on Sunday (June 25).

The Riverview Horticultural Centre Society will host a family-friendly walk of the 244 acres off Lougheed Highway from 1 to 3 p.m.

The two-hour stroll will highlight some of the 1,600-plus catalogued trees on the site — many of which were planted in the early 20th century by the province’s first botanist.

Visitors can meet in the upper parking of the Henry Esson Young (HEY) building; follow the tree tour wayfinding signs.

Dogs on leash are permitted. Pre-registration is not required.

Meanwhile, on July 9, the society will have its annual general meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the Nancy Bennett Room of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.).

You can learn about the group’s activities for the coming year, including its aim to preserve the former hospital lands.
