Young people with an interest in the world of policing are invited to join the Port Moody Police Department's 1st annual Youth Leadership Academy.
The program, which is run with the help of Rotary International, is designed to give youth an insight into the world of policing with instruction on Canadian law, use of force and de-escalation techniques.
Participants will hear from a variety of speakers, including officers from the Gang Task Force, the Drug Suppression Team and psychologist Dennis Boyd. The Youth Service Section will also present on topics like gangs, drug use, legal studies, online safety, cyber-bullying, Facebook and various issues facing teenagers in their day-to-day life.
The free program runs between June 25 and 29 and is open to Grade 9 students who either attend a Port Moody school or are a Port Moody resident. The deadline for applications is May 21, 2012.
