Summer clinic to deal with testing backlog

School District 43 to spend some of its surplus on psycho-educational testing for high school students who need re-testing

A summer clinic aimed at reducing the waiting list for psycho-educational assessments in School District 43, particularly at the high school level, will go ahead after the district agreed to put $9,300 towards it from its end-of-year surplus.

The money will provide re-testing for 18 students, a plan believed to be the most efficient way to deal with the backlog for students needing help with learning challenges. Families have already been contacted for scheduled appointments with psychologists, who will do the tests during the first few weeks of summer.

The waiting list was identified as a problem during recent public meetings on SD43's budget, during which school psychologists pointed out that cuts to their services had led to a backlog.

As well, another $5,000 has been given to the District Parent Advisory Program to go towards programs for parents.
