Police issued a plea yesterday for the driver who struck a cyclist in Port Coquitlam this week to come forward.
The hit-and-run happened just before midnight on July 30 on the Mary Hill bypass, just north of Kingsway Avenue. The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was rushed unconscious to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, where Coquitlam RCMP on Thursday afternoon held a press conference with his family to ask for the public's help.
Mounties believe the cyclist was riding east on the shoulder and was hit from behind by a larger Toyota vehicle such as a truck or an SUV. Investigators also found a black plastic passenger side mirror housing from the scene, which they feel may be from the Toyota.
"We are urging the driver to do the right thing by coming forward and telling us what happened," Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said. "The cyclist who is seriously injured has a wife and two kids and they deserve to know how and why it happened."
