The cost to be active in Port Coquitlam is about to get a little more expensive.
Last week, PoCo city council gave final readings to its fees and charges amendment bylaw for parks and recreation, with prices up slightly for operating, market and/or inflationary changes.
At a council meeting earlier this month, Coun. Glenn Pollock said the increases aren’t as big as in other Metro Vancouver jurisdictions — some of which have hiked their civic fees so much that it’s hurt their community sports organizations’ bottom line.
The fee hikes for PoCo, which if approved would go into effect July 1, are:
HYDE CREEK (swim, fitness rooms)
• Single admission: $3.10 for children, $4.60 for youth and seniors, $6.20 for adults and $12.40 for family.
• 10-visit passes: $27.90 for children, $41.40 for youth and seniors, $55.80 for adults and $111.60 for family.
• 20-visit passes: $49.60 for children, $73.60 for youth and seniors, $99.20 for adults and $198.40 for family.
POCO REC COMPLEX (skate)
• Single admission: $2.60 for children, $3.80 for youth and seniors, $5.20 for adults and $10.40 for family.
• 10-visit pass: $23.40 for children, $34.20 for youth and seniors, $46.80 for adults and $93.60 for family.
• Seasonal pass: $57.20 for children, $83.60 for youth and seniors, $114.40 for adults and $228.80 for family.
Meanwhile, rental of the picnic shelters at Lions, Settlers, Castle and Peace parks rises $2 to $38 a day. And the PoCo Marlins Swim Club indoor pool rental rate goes up to $42 per hour from $37.80 (its outdoor pool levy remains the same).
But according to a report released at the May 11 city council meeting, PoCo still has the highest field rental rate in the Tri-Cities and Maple Ridge for adult and youth non-profits.
For example, for an 'A' level field in PoCo, an adult group will pay $16.40 an hour versus $8.30 in Coquitlam, $12.70 in Maple Ridge and $1.80 in Port Moody while a youth non-profit will pay $8.20 an hour in PoCo compared with zero in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge and 45 cents in Port Moody.
As well, for an artificial turf field, the cost for an adult non-profit will be $44.80 an hour in PoCo versus $35.25 in Coquitlam, $12.70 in Maple Ridge and $37.90 in Port Moody while a youth group will pay $22.40 an hour in PoCo, zero in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge and $16 in Port Moody.
