Pictures of the front of all Coquitlam homes will be snapped from a van for BC Assessment next month.
Starting Wednesday, a clearly marked van with digital cameras inside will roam Coquitlam's residential streets in an effort to update the Crown corporation's photo stock, which is used for property assessment purposes.
The van will likely be travelling around Port Coquitlam and Port Moody neighbourhoods next fall.
Zina Weston, deputy assessor for BC Assessment's North Fraser region, which includes the Tri-Cities, said the agency doesn't use the Google Street View as those photos aren't as clear and they reveal too much private information, such as cars' licence plate numbers and faces of pedestrians.
As well, Weston said BC Assessment's images are designed to co-ordinate with its corporate maps and property drawings.
The cost for the three-week long drive in Coquitlam is $2.60 per folio, or more than $66,000 for the 25,400 properties.
Started four years ago, the BC Assessment photo campaign has already gone through Nanaimo, the North Shore, Surrey, White Rock, Squamish, Maple Ridge and Abbotsford. The program is now wrapping up in Burnaby and is due to start next week in New Westminster.
