A large fight outside a Coquitlam apartment building ended with three young men being stabbed, including one who was trying to break up the fight.
Coquitlam RCMP were called to the building in the 400-block of Westview Street, near North Road, shortly before midnight on Friday. At the time, about 20 people were said to be fighting on a grassy area outside the building.
When officers arrived they found just four people, two outside and two inside the apartment lobby. Three men in their 20s were suffering minor stab wounds to their abdomen, face and arm.
Cpl. Jamie Chung said a large group of people was walking past the building, where a smaller group of people were standing outside, when there was an exchange between the two.
"One thing led to another and a fight broke out and somebody pulled a knife."
It's believed the suspect was one of the individuals in the larger group walking past the building.
"We don't have a motive at this point," Chung said. "It appears one group does not know the other. It was a close-to-midnight, after-the-party kind of event."
Police are looking for additional witnesses and are asking anyone with information to call them at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2012-22035.
