Super Bowl 56 is set to kick-off Sunday afternoon (Feb. 13) — one of the most highly-anticipated events on the calendar each year for gamblers.
The BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) is set to test a new series of single-game sports betting this weekend via PlayNow.com and has partnered with a trio of Tri-City bars and restaurants ahead of the big game in L.A.
As part of the pilot program, John B Pub and Woody's Pub in Coquitlam, as well as the Cat and Fiddle Pub in Port Coquitlam, are set to house new digital display screens that circulate live odds and predictions for sporting events.
Healthy betting tips are set to part of the screening to assist bettors wanting to play within their limit.
In a news release, interim chief operating officer Dan Beebe explains this is a concept BCLC has wanted to test ever since single-event sports betting became legal in Canada in late August.
"This marks the first step in testing how PlayNow.com, B.C.’s local sportsbook, can be implemented at land-based locations," he says.
"This pilot will help BCLC to understand the preferences of sports bettors, and help inform future experiences and programs to help support safe, positive play."
Each Tri-City business is also set to host its own Super Bowl activities on Sunday. They are three of 12 participating in BCLC's pilot across the province this weekend.
The locations are as follows:
- John B Pub - 1000 Austin Ave.
- Woody's Pub - 935 Brunette Ave.
- Cat and Fiddle Pub - 1979 Brown St.
Single-event betting is being considered for casinos in B.C. as well, and other "land-based channels."
For anyone concerned about responsible gambling, PlayNow.com has a number of features as well, to prioritize the health of the gamblers, states the corporation.
Interested patrons at John B, Woody's or Cat and Fiddle are set to receive a $10 freebet voucher for PlayNow.com sports betting. You'll need your mobile device to scan a QR code.
