A Coquitlam tour bus company involved in a fatal collision in Oregon State in December has now responded to the provincial government about its suspension as part of an official review of the business.
A transportation ministry spokesperson said Mi Joo Tour and Travel provided a detailed account of its operations by the Feb. 28 deadline. Mi Joo cannot run its business in B.C. until the review wraps up. It is expected to take several weeks, the ministry said.
"The ministry will take the time to diligently review the company's planned measures to ensure its drivers are adhering to the regulations," the spokesperson said.
The company was suspended in January at the same time the U.S. Department of Transportation ordered Mi Joo to cease operations in America.
It had claimed one of its drivers had spent 92 hours behind the wheel during an eight-day trip throughout the western United States - 22 hours more than the maximum time allowed.
A number of lawsuits have been filed in Canada and the U.S. since a Mi Joo bus driver lost control of his vehicle and it went down a steep embankment on Dec. 30, 2012. Nine people died and 38 passengers were injured in the crash in Pendleton, Ore.
