Transit Museum Society is running its annual Christmas lights tour in the Tri-Cities on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 β€” it's biggest fundraiser of the year β€”via the "9753," a 1996 New Flyer D40LF

You can hop on a vintage bus to see Christmas displays at Tri-City homes on Friday, Dec. 13.

The Transit Museum Society is rolling out its “newest” vehicle — the 9753 — for its annual lights tour of the Tri-Cities that includes:

  • Lights at Lafarge in Coquitlam
  • Rae Street in Port Coquitlam
  • Candy Cane Lane in Anmore

Michael Taylor-Noonan, the nonprofit’s vice-president, told the Tri-City News they encourage passengers to make donations at the decorated houses raising money for charity.

The bus 9753 is a 1996 New Flyer D40LF and “people in the Lower Mainland will no doubt remember these vehicles, which were the first low-floor buses,” he said, noting it ran in Vancouver and Burnaby for 18 years.

Afterwards, BC Transit bought the bus from TransLink and it operated in Victoria for another six years before it was given to the society.

Taylor-Noonan said the 3.5-hour bus tour is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year; it also showcases its 1957 mobile museum bus at Lower Mainland events like car-free days and the PNE.

Tickets for the lights tour on the vintage bus are available on the Transit Museum Society's website. The journey starts on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7:15 p.m. from Coquitlam Central station (2920 Barnet Hwy.). The cost is $35 per person.
