Tri-City drivers can expect to encounter some Evergreen Line work over the next few weeks.

Traffic pattern changes will be in place on Golden Spike Lane as crews relocate a utility, for approximately three days between Aug. 15 and 25. Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During this time Golden Spike Lane will be single-lane alternating and street parking on Buller Street will be temporarily unavailable.

Starting on Aug. 20 large concrete beams will be delivered to a work site, near Murray Street and Klahanie Drive, at night due to the large size of the girders and the volume of traffic on Murray. The girders will be used on the elevated section of the Evergreen Line guideway that crosses over the railway tracks and Suter Brook Creek.

The work will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about three nights starting on Aug. 20 with approximately four deliveries per night.

There will be temporary nighttime traffic stops on Murray Street, just east of Electronic Avenue, and delivery trucks will minimize the use of back-up beepers by turning around near Grant and Esplanade streets and then turning right into the work site from Murray Street eastbound.

Construction work in the area will continue for the rest of the year, with crews installing girders and deck panels for the elevated guideway. Once the structure is complete, crews will begin the power and systems installation. Inlet Centre construction will be ongoing through 2014 and 2015.

And at the Lougheed Town Centre station upcoming construction work includes installation of escalators, completion of the roof structure and structural steel for the station expansion and new duct bank relocation.

Drivers and pedestrians should be aware of the following detours:

Nighttime closures of Austin Avenue starting Aug. 25 until September - drivers heading west on Austin will be detoured at North Road to Lougheed highway and drivers wishing to access Austin from Lougheed or Government Street will be detoured further east to North Road.

Drivers should watch for changeable message signs indicating the exact closure dates, and follow traffic personnel.

Temporary sidewalk closures may be in effect.
