Some promised changes to permit Seaview residents to safely access Clarke Street from their Port Moody neighborhood take effect today.

The traffic pattern changes and road improvements were made so the View Street and Barnet Highway intersection could be closed to allow workers to do pre-construction work for the Evergreen Line tunnel.

The closure as well as the following road changes take affect today:

A right-turn out from Clarke Street onto Barnet Highway

An upgraded intersection at Clarke Road and Charles Street with a protected left turn from Charles Street onto eastbound Clarke Road/St. Johns Street

Clarke Road at Charles Street has also been widened to improve intersection safety

Installation of a 27-inch median barrier

Increased street lighting

Additional speed-limit signage to reduce vehicle speeds

A traffic signal for drivers traveling up Clarke Road hill will be installed as soon as possible to assist residents making a left turn from Charles Street onto Clarke Road/St. Johns Street, according to an ERGRT Construction bulletin.
