Trasolini expected to make transportation announcement

Former Port Moody Mayor and current NDP candidate for Port Moody-Coquitlam Joe Trasolini will be making a transportation announcement Monday morning.

Former Port Moody Mayor and current NDP candidate for Port Moody-Coquitlam Joe Trasolini will be making a transportation announcement Monday morning.

Trasolini will be joined by NDP party leader Adrian Dix and is expected to make a statement at the Port Moody West Coast Express Station regarding local transit issues.

The location is the same place where officials announced pre-construction contracts for the long-awaited SkyTrain line on Wednesday.

The contracts, which totaled $2.3 million, involve early site demolition work and the installation of underground power lines. Surrey-based Hans Demolition will receive $99,465 to clear several properties along Clarke Rd. in Coquitlam, while Langley's Pedre Contractors will receive $2.2 million for power line installation.

Trasolini's announcement comes as part of his byelection campaign as he works to win the Port Moody seat vacated by former B.C. Liberal MLA Iain Black.

Premier Christy Clark has yet to announce a date for the byelection, however both the B.C. Conservative Party and the New Democrats have already chosen candidates. The B.C. Liberals are expected to follow suit on Feb. 17.
