Hikers and dog walkers are being asked to exercise caution while strolling through a Coquitlam park this fall.
Starting the week of Oct. 15, contractors hired by the city will be taking out young, dead, standing and fallen trees from part of Ridge Park, a 148-acre green space that can be entered from several points, including Parkway Boulevard and Hampton Park.
Lanny Englund, Coquitlam's urban forestry and park services manager, who is also a certified arborist, said the trees present a high wildfire risk for Westwood Plateau.
The tree removal, which will happen in about 14 acres of the park, will mean temporary trails will be carved out to allow contractors to access the site over the next two months.
Chainsaws and chippers will be used during the project, which will also see closures of some trails.
The cost for the tree removal is $92,500 - $83,250 of which is being funded by a Union of BC Municipalities' grant. To learn more about the project, call 604-927-3669 or visit coquitlam.ca/ridgepark.
