Place des Arts is located at 1120 Brunette Ave. in Coquitlam.

Inside Coquitlam's Place des Arts, an art exhibit is showcasing the power of multiculturalism, diversity and anti-racism.

Your Art Your Reflections is a collection curated by Asian Impact Society, a non-profit organization based in the Tri-Cities, aiming to bring awareness on Asian discrimination and promoting a world where diversity is celebrated.

The exhibit, open until Nov. 9, will feature works, artistic expressions that "challenge stereotypes, celebrate differences and promote inclusivity within our community" from emerging artists of all ages, backgrounds and personal journeys.

According to a news release, the local artists, in addition to addressing issues of racism, inequality and social discrimination, will shed light on the beauty and strength of embracing differences through their own unique perspectives.

"Prejudice and division still persists in the world today and a powerful way of dismantling this is through sharing perspectives through art, because art transcends the language barrier," said spokesperson Justina Mark.

Your Art Your Reflections will allow visitors to explore different mediums, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography and mixed media pieces, and encourage raising questions about societal norms.

A "People's Choice Award" will be handed out to the artwork with the most "likes," the Asian Impact Society added. Visitors can vote at the exhibit or through the virtual gallery until Nov. 1.

Exhibition of Art in Food and Beverage

Asian Impact Society will also hold an inclusive community event to complement the art exhibition.

On Sunday, Nov. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m., Exhibition of Art in Food and Beverage, which is free to attend at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave.), will include live music and performances alongside canapes, cocktails and mocktails crafted by local restaurants and inspired by diverse cultures in the Tri-Cities.

The celebration, according to the release, will offer a space for people to come together, celebrate our shared humanity, while honouring the unique identities and cultures that make up our community.

Each ticket will include three canapes, one cocktail or mocktail and a $25 donation is encouraged — all proceeds will be donated to the Asian Impact Society.
