TEEN SEWING

Learn the basics or improve your sewing skills at this class hosted by the Terry Fox Library inside the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.). Teens ages 13 and up can make a fun, easy project from 1:30 to 3 p.m. All supplies are provided.

BOARD GAMES

Find a new board game — and meet some new people — at the Board Games Day at the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.). From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., participants ages eight and up can learn a board game at the drop-in event. Registration is not required.

ART TALK

Meet Rebecca Bair, the artist behind the solo show Where the Light Meets My Shoulder, at the Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) for the exhibition’s opening. The reception takes place from 2 to 4:40 p.m. with remarks at 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend.

LEGION NIGHT

Enjoy the tunes and jump on the dance floor at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 263 in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) for a fun night with the Brian Zalo Mix. The band hits the stage at 7 p.m.

SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL

Stage 43 Theatrical Society presents an updated adaptation of the 18th century comedy The School for Scandal with a modern version by William Harwell Wilson. The shows run at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) from Jan. 11 to 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $63/$57.

ROCK ’N ROLL

See two musical acts from the 1980s and 90s in Coquitlam: Great White and Slaughter. The concert in The Show Theatre at the Great Canadian Casino Vancouver in Coquitlam (2080 United Blvd.) starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are via ticketmaster.ca.

Catch the Port Moody Panthers face off against the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers on home ice for a 7:45 p.m. hockey game at the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Rd.).

SALSA DANCE

Slip on your dance shoes and groove to the Latin beats with Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler of the Salsa Dance Zone. Its dance lesson for beginners at the Site B Brewery in Port Moody (3012 Murray St.) starts at 8 p.m. And, at 9 p.m., the dance floor opens for the dance party until midnight. Admission is $15. All ages are welcome.
