Happy New Year
Celebrate Chaharshanbe Suri — the Iranian fire festival — on the eve of the last Wednesday before Nowruz (Iranian New Year) at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The gathering takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. and includdes a fire jumping (to bless the new year); live music by Sandy, a popular Iranian singer; Persian dancing; and a New Year's market.

Made in Italy
Follow the story of Francesco Mantini, a second-generation Italian teen growing up in Jasper, Alta. The Arts Club Theatre production by Farren Timoteo, which is based on the Western Canada Theatre show, is at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) until March 17. Tickets are $50/$42/$16. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.
