Invasive plants

Slip on your gloves and boots to help the Burke Mountain Naturalists and City of Port Coquitlam staff pull invasive plants around the Blakeburn Lagoons. The work party is from 9 a.m. to noon. No experience is needed. Parking on the eastern side of Elbow Place by the cul-de-sac, off Riverside Drive.

Volunteer snaps

It’s the last day to nominate a Port Coquitlam volunteer for an award. The city is calling for nominations for its 2024 recognition program; winners will be named on April 19 during National Volunteer Week. The theme for this year’s event is Volunteers Take Centre Stage. Nominations are accepted for the following categories: Volunteer of the Year; Youth Volunteer (U25); and Lifetime Volunteer. The Tri-City News is a sponsor.

The Planets

Gustav Holst’s masterpiece "The Planets" will be performed by the Bergmann piano duo — Marcel and Elizabeth — at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) at 2 p.m. Tickets are $32/$28/$16.

Express on ice

Cheer on the Coquitlam Express as the hockey team battles Surrey on home ice at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.) at 7 p.m.

Immigration talk

Join Hui Zhang and Robert Leong for a presentation at the Port Moody Public Library (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody) on the ins and outs of immigration. Get knowledge on the immigration process, including permanent residency obligations and becoming a Canadian citizen, as well as learn how to watch out for and report immigration fraud. The talk is from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Carney Shrek

Grab a seat in the Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, Port Coquitlam) to see the Shrek: The Musical by students at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School. Nicolas Lam takes the lead role. The performance with a live orchestra starts at 7 p.m. and is family friendly. Tickets are $18.
