City-wide garage sale

Hunt for second-hand treasures during the City of Coquitlam’s spring city-wide garage sale and giveaway event, on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To find out the participating households, visit the city website.

Bat-a-thon

Help the Coquitlam Little League raise money for training equipment, uniforms and a new PA system at its annual Bat-a-thon, happening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mackin Park (1026 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam).

Public Works Day

Take the kids to see the City of Port Coquitlam’s big machines and vehicles at the annual Public Works Day open house, which is being held in the Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public works team includes the parks department, as well as street, cemetery, urban forestry, sanitation, horticulture, shop/fleet, utilities and turf services.

Underwater archaeology

Hear from Rob Rondeau, a PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University, take about marine archaeology at a lecture at the POMO Museum (2734 Murray St., Port Moody) at 1 p.m. Rondeau is the recipient of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Ph.D.) and was named a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society in 2012.

Math fun

Drop into the Terry Fox Library (inside the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, 2150 Wilson Ave.) from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for a chance to win prizes with Mathnasium.

Dance to the tunes at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 263 in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) where the Brian Zalo Mix takes the stage from 7 to 11 p.m. Food service is available.

Sun Songs

Hear from two-time JUNO award nominee and Port Coquitlam resident Jodi Proznick on bass as she plays tunes from her album Sun Songs at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) at 7 p.m. The show features Tilden Webb on piano, Jesse Cahil on drums, Jon Bentley on tenor saxophone and Shruti Ramani on vocals. Raven Spirit Dance

Works-in-progress by the Raven Spirit Dance and the Pakitinam Choreographers Circle, a residency program for emerging Indigenous choreographers, will be highlighted as part of the Rehearsal Hall Sessions at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) at 8 p.m.

Salsa time

Learn the basic Salsa, bachata and merengue moves with Salsa Dance Zone instructors Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler during a beginners’ lesson at 8 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.) then dance the night away to the Latin beats until midnight. Admission is $15. The event is for adults only.
