Wear Purple

Sport the colour purple today in recognition of brain awareness caused by interpersonal violence. The Royal Purple — including the BC Tri-Cities Royal Purple (formerly the Port Coquitlam Royal Purple) — has partnered with brain injury associations across Canada to deliver care bags to shelters.

PoCo Test Alert

Port Coquitlam will issue a city-wide test alert through its emergency notification system, Alertable, at 10:25 a.m. to coincide with the ShakeOut BC earthquake drill. The alarm, which will go off following the drill, is the first public test of the city system and is designed to ensure residents have access to local information about emergencies. Residents are asked not to call 9-1-1 during the test.

Write It Well

Scribes can visit the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 3 to 4 p.m. for a writing workshop with author Gisela Woldenga. The session takes place in the Nancy Bennett Room; writers can bring their manuscripts.

Join the Port Moody Police at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody (100 Newport Dr.) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to talk about online safety. The True2You: Empowering Parents workshop is free.

VoiceStory

Be part of a VoiceStory social event to learn the art of conversation. Guests ages 16 and up can meet new people and practise speaking and connecting. The workshop is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way).

Movie Night

Grab a seat on the dog park patio at Yellow Dog Brewing in Port Moody (1-2817 Murray St.) for a movie night during Penticton Beer Week. The free screening starts at 7 p.m.

Circus Time

The Las Vegas-based Circus Osorio returns to the Coquitlam Centre campus (2929 Barnet Hwy., Coquitlam) for shows until Oct. 30 under the big tent. Tickets are $25/$20/$10.
