Two people were a bit hypothermic but otherwise okay after spending the night on a small boat that got stranded on a sandbar in the Fraser River Wednesday.
The pair had no radio or phone and Port Coquitlam Fire Chief Nick Delmonico said they were only noticed when city staff spotted them while doing work along the dyke.
Rescue officials were called but the boaters decided to wade to shore before they could arrive.
"We just provided some medical attention," Delmonico told The Tri-City News. "They were definitely a bit hypothermic."
Delmonico said the boat got hung up on the sandbar at around 2 a.m. and the two people had spent an approximate total of 10 hours on the water.
