Two men are in hospital after the driver of an Acura lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road along Cape Horn Avenue and Warrick Street Sunday night.

Emergency crews needed to use the jaw of life to extricate the pair, in what fire chief Tony Delmonico said was a difficult rescue operation.

"There was one tree that had gone right through the undercarriage of the vehicle," he told The Tri-City News. "It is probably one of the most difficult auto extractions we have been able to perform."

One man received a facial laceration while the other suffered internal injuries.

The vehicle was traveling up Cape Horn shortly after 11:30 p.m. when the driver lost control. Delmonico said speed was a factor in the incident.
