Two new bike parkades have opened up at SkyTrain stations in Coquitlam this week.

TransLink said Burquitlam and Lafarge Lake-Douglas will now have the facilities that allow passengers to store their bicycles in a safe place while commuting on transit.

“They are all fully lit glass-walled facilities with video surveillance, a repair stand and an air pump for bike tires,” TransLink spokespoerson Dan Mountain in an email. “Each parkade can store up to 45 bikes at a time.”

Once a person is registered, they can use their Compass Card to tap into the parkades, which cost $1 per day or $8 per month.

These are not the first bike parkades to open up in the Tri-Cities.

Last month, TransLink began operating a facility at the West Coast Express station in Port Coquitlam, providing racks and lockers for commuters.

Bike parkades are also available at Richmond Bridgeport, Main Street-Science World, King Edward, Commercial-Broadway, Joyce-Collingwood, Metrotown and King George stations.

To register to use a bike parkade, go to translink.ca/bikeparkade or call 604-398-2042.
