A Coquitlam man will be spending two years behind bars after he was convicted on several offences linked to his arrest in January.
Paul Gilles Fontaine, 49, was located in a stolen vehicle in the early-morning hours of Jan. 12 when Prolific Target Team investigators located a stolen SUV in the 600-block of Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam and followed it to a nearby gas station.
He was initially charged with 16 offences in connection with several investigations, including three counts of break and enter, possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon and three counts of trespassing at night.
Fontaine was convicted of two counts of break and enter, dangerous driving, theft under $5,000 and possession of break and enter tools.
In 2014, Fontaine was the focus of a lengthy investigation into a series of night-time residential break and enters throughout Maillardville and Burquitlam, according to police.
During this time, police received multiple complaints of a suspect allegedly entering homes through unlocked windows and doors during evening hours and stealing wallets, purses, electronics and in some cases, the keys to the home owner's vehicles.
Police encouraged all residents to take responsibility for public safety by getting connected to your neighbourhood, paying attention to what's going on around you and reporting any suspicious or criminal activity to police.
