Coquitlam residents in the United Boulevard area likely got a bit of a scare when a film production in the area set off some pyrotechnics around 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.
As it turns out, filming for the television series Arrow was underway and the production had been permitted to light off an explosion that sent flames and smoke 65 feet into the air.
Coqutilam fire chief Wade Pierlot told The Tri-City News on Wednesday that the film production had notified the department.
"We had a standby crew there," he said in an email. "With all of our recent fires, I can see why this would attract attention."
Pierlot added that production companies often film in the area and they are generally good about communicating with the department.
Charmain Chia said she was coming out of Canadian Tire on the other side of the Lougheed Highway when she heard a loud blast coming from the train tracks. She added that the smoke dissipated quickly, but not before she managed to snap a photo.
