UPDATE: IHIT investigating suspicious death in Port Coquitlam

Police came upon a badly injured Shawn Curtis George, 44, at around 10 p.m. on a trail in the 1300 block of Laurier Avenue near the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. He later succumbed to his injuries, which police said were consistent with foul play.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team have identified the man who was found dead in Port Coquitlam Saturday night.

Police came upon a badly-injured Shawn Curtis George, 44, at around 10 p.m. on a trail in the 1300 block of Laurier Avenue near the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre. He later succumbed to his injuries, which police said were consistent with foul play.

In a press release, investigators said George lived in the Tri-Cities area and that police were still gathering evidence to learn what factors led to his death. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled and the cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

"Mr. George was known to police, and investigators are working to determine the motive," said IHIT Cpl. Meghan Foster. "Anyone who knew Mr. George is asked to contact police."
