UPDATE: Coquitlam RCMP reopened the overpass for traffic at 1:30 p.m.
Commuters trying to get across the Coast Meridian overpass Monday morning had a wrench in their plans after a flatbed truck toppled its load.
Coqutilam RCMP were called to the scene at about 7 a.m. and it took several hours to right the load, made up of large steel pipes.
A crane was brought in to put the pipes back on the truck but was inadequate to the task and a second crane was brought in according to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
“These are large, very heavy items.”
The truck had been turning onto the overpass when it flipped near the Wendy’s restaurant, shutting off southbound traffic for several hours.
